Check out this nimble Skoda Yeti camping conversion from one of our readers. The setup is simple, lightweight, and designed so the car can still function as a standard five-seater when needed.

The main feature is a rear boot riser, weighing just 9kg. It’s covered in durable 4-way stretch anthracite fabric, secured to the boot floor with tie-down eyes, and even includes cutouts for crumple protection and weight saving. The riser pairs with plywood inserts on the rear seat backs and a front panel with foldable locking legs. This front section locates neatly onto the seat rails and can also be tied around the folded rear headrests if extra security is needed—although the design is solid enough without.

Another nice touch: the full spare wheel remains in place, so no compromises on practicality. And except for the front panel (stored in the roof box), all parts stay inside the car without interfering with normal passenger use.

Best of all, the whole setup can be put together in just 3–4 minutes. Quick, functional, and clever—this Yeti build shows exactly why DIY camping conversions are so appealing.

I like the pull-out lids on the storage compartments – easy way to get something (smaller) out of storage without having to lift the entire mattress.

What I would suggest to change is the use of an inflatable mattress – there’s plenty reasons why it’s not a good long term solution.
